Maui Film Festival

By |May 25th, 2012|Hawaii, Maui, Maui Activities, Maui Art, Maui Events, Maui Film Festival|2 Comments

By far, our favorite event of the year on Maui is the Maui Film Festival (June 13th-17th.)  Watching the sunset over the ocean, then walking over to the grass of a golf course to watch a double feature under the stars?  Are you kidding me?  And add all the fun parties before and after the films.  It’s blissfully fun. So you want to go?  The Maui Film Festival usually runs in mid June of each year, so there’s plenty of time to get ready.  We’ve decided to give you a little heads up on what you might need in order to enjoy the festival to its fullest. The Shins Rock MAUI

By |April 19th, 2012|Celebrities in Hawaii, Hawaii, Maui, Maui Art, Maui Events, Maui News|1 Comment

The Shins absolutely rocked the house at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center last night at the Castle Theater.  They played a good grip of our old favorites as well as some new ones off their newest album, Port Of Morrow. The evening began with cocktails and familiar faces outside the entrance of the Castle at MACC.  We were really happy to see that the art exhibit next door was still open (closes I believe in a few days.)  Beautiful pieces lined the walls, including one piece from Jefferson Stillwell. We strolled around seeing some amazing local art before The Shins began playing. […]

Illegal Maui TVR’s

By |March 28th, 2012|Hawaii, Hawaii Economy, Maui, Maui Business, Maui Vacation Rentals, Saving Money|18 Comments

A quick note to those looking to rent a vacation rental in Maui.  Though vacation rentals can sometimes be the best option as far as price and privacy, not all Maui vacation rentals are created equally.  PLEASE, do not rent illegal TVR’s.  An illegal transient vacation rental is a home that is being rented to Maui visitors without getting the required permitting.  […]

Everything will take you less than an hour to put together.  The following is a recipe for 2 people. […]

Maui Photo Festival 2011

By |August 29th, 2011|Hawaii, Lahaina, Maui, Maui Activities, Maui Art, Maui Business, Maui Events, Maui News|8 Comments

We’ve listed our favorite parts of the Maui Photo Festival along with some things that can be improved. THE GOOD Location! Perfect for outdoor photo shoots and workshops. The beaches here are amazing and perfect for sunsets.  you can’t ask for a better area to shoot at. Warm, Strong Community. This is different from any other photography convention we’ve been to.  It’s not as huge as some of the mainland conventions, which brings people together more to meet and learn from each other.  These things are fantastic for networking and learning from other professionals and enthusiasts. It’s a less intimidating environment allowing everyone time to speak to the pros and mingle. […]

Upcountry Maui Rental

By |April 1st, 2011|Maui, Maui Real Estate, Maui Vacation Rentals, Saving Money|Comments Off on Upcountry Maui Rental

One thing that very few visitors to Maui can do is decide to escape the heat when they want to (other than with A/C.)  We recommend, especially in the summer, renting a vacation rental Upcountry.  This area is only around 10 miles from the beach, but it’s at a higher elevation.  This allows for great views as well as a cooler climate. Play all day at the beach, then retire to the quiet and cool of Upcountry Maui at the Kula Cottage. This Maui property is no longer for rent.  SORRY! […]

Maui Proposal Ideas

By |April 1st, 2011|Hana, Hawaii, Maui, Maui Beaches, Maui Weddings, Road To Hana|2 Comments

How to Propose in Maui Hawaii I’ve been asked many times how one can propose marriage creatively on our island. I tell my own story, and then give suggestions. It’s time to share this with everyone. How I Proposed to my wife on Maui We live here, so I felt that I needed to do more than just walk down the beach and propose (though it would have sufficed.) I rented a beautiful house in Hana and told my girlfriend that I’m taking her camping in Hana. […]

Pepper Live At House Party

By |February 24th, 2011|Big Island, Celebrities in Hawaii, Hawaii, Kauai, Lanai, Maui, Maui Art, Maui Events, Molokai, Oahu|14 Comments

Pepper 10 Years Ago We thought, considering Pepper’s recent success with their Volcanic Rock Tour, we’d revisit the past with some photos we took when the boys played at our little rat-hole pad at the beach on 42nd Street in Newport Beach, CA.  We think the show was in 1999, but that has yet to be confirmed (college dates and times are always a little blurry.)  They played an incredible show to the delight of us poor surf bums and the neighborhood rejoiced. Our cancerous, toxic little pad on the corner of 42nd was barely big enough to fit the band (let alone any audience.)  We moved all of our furniture into the garage and a select few of us packed into the kitchen to watch the show.  The rest of us squeezed on the patio outside to listen. […]

This is the first of many posts we’ll be adding about being pregnant on Maui. For the most part, snorkeling while pregnant can be done without danger and can be a great way to get some exercise while increasing the mother’s happiness (both very important for a healthy pregnancy.) There are a few things you should consider before snorkeling while pregnant. When in your 3rd trimester, it’s a bit more risky since you’ll have less energy and dexterity. Dangers and tips: 1. Reef Cuts and Infection Upon entry and exit of the water, you’ll often find yourself in shallow water. Shallows are also prevalent around reef outcroppings. If you touch the reef at anytime, you’ll likely be cut. Cuts lead to infections, which are bad news when pregnant. We suggest going out at calm beaches and staying a clear distance from any reef. Massage Stories – Maui, China, Bali

By |October 27th, 2010|Hawaii, Maui, Maui Activities, Maui Weddings, Oahu, Saving Money, Travel|0 Comments

THE BEST Maui, Hawaii, USA $85/hour We’ve been testing out massage parlors on Maui for years now.  Most are outrageously expensive (ex. at the big resorts.)  But we just found one that does incredible massages for a decent price.  Massage Maui in front of the Sugar Beach Resort is outstanding. The location is great because it’s easily accessible for anyone on the south side (Makena, Wailea, Kihei), not more than 30-45 minutes from the West side (Lahaina, Kaanapali, Kapalua), and a short hop from the North side (Kahului, Wailuku, Paia.) Wailea Real Estate a Steal

By |October 14th, 2010|Hawaii, Hawaii Economy, Maui, Maui Real Estate, Saving Money|0 Comments

Home prices in Wailea, and the rest of Maui, are low and offer great opportunities for those looking for a second home in paradise. When searching for Wailea homes for sale, we’re finding that prices are finally becoming affordable.  Recently, some of our authors have been looking for new homes (this author included.)  Many of us live in smaller condos, which is great for location and maintenance.  But when you want a little more room, having a larger condo in the Wailea area can make all the difference.  Some of the floor plans we’re seeing are wide-open with a lot more square-footage.  Plus, you can’t beat the neighborhoods in Wailea. […]
