The Maui Film Festival usually runs in mid June of each year, so there's plenty of time to get ready. We've decided to give you a little heads up on what you might need in order to enjoy the festival to its fullest.
If you've got little ones, Haiku Elementary has a fun event each year where students dress up the back of their parents car in spooky Halloweeny ways, then hand out candy to dressed up trick or treaters. It's a ton of fun and really a great, practical way of going trick or treating.
Join the Maui County Farm Bureau as we honor legendary Maui farmers at the Maui Tropical Plantation on April 2nd at 8am for a PANCAKE BREAKFAST! That's right, pancakes.

We had the honor and pleasure to be invited to the Grand Opening of the Andaz Maui at Wailea this last Saturday. The Andaz is the Hyatt’s new beachfront resort, which has gone through an almost complete rebuild from the original Renaissance Hotel. What they have done with this property is jaw dropping. […]
Halloween is usually an exciting event wherever you are, but Halloween in Lahaina definitely steps it up a notch, and 2013 was no exception. The County of Maui offered public transportation specifically for the event, with “Halloween Express” busses running directly to Lahaina from both the Kihei Aquatic Center and War Memorial Parking Lot in Wailuku. However, if you prefer to travel a bit more in style, the Pride of Maui offered a special Halloween Cruise running directly from Maalaea Harbor to Lahaina and back again. […]
We took a pretty amazing trip to Hana last week. A handful of active Maui social media influencers, of whom expressed interest in a trip to Hana, were invited to travel aboard Road to Hana Tours to visit some of the best spots along the Road to Hana. […]
Fresh local food, chef competitions, great produce and local products and live music/dancing are some of the reasons to visit the Maui Tropical Plantation on April 6th. The Maui County Ag Fest is one of the best events on Maui. […]
Last year, we were so lucky to go to the 1st Annual TedxMaui! For those that don’t know, Ted.com is a great place to spend some computer time getting inspired by hundreds of 20 minute talks by the top speakers in almost every field. We first watched them while having lunch (since they’re short enough to watch then talk about in a lunch break.) We never imagined that the talks would come to Maui! We expect to be awed again on January 13th, 2013! […]
The Shins absolutely rocked the house at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center last night at the Castle Theater. They played a good grip of our old favorites as well as some new ones off their newest album, Port Of Morrow. The evening began with cocktails and familiar faces outside the entrance of the Castle at MACC. We were really happy to see that the art exhibit next door was still open (closes I believe in a few days.) Beautiful pieces lined the walls, including one piece from Jefferson Stillwell. We strolled around seeing some amazing local art before The Shins began playing. […]
We’ve listed our favorite parts of the Maui Photo Festival along with some things that can be improved. THE GOOD Location! Perfect for outdoor photo shoots and workshops. The beaches here are amazing and perfect for sunsets. you can’t ask for a better area to shoot at. Warm, Strong Community. This is different from any other photography convention we’ve been to. It’s not as huge as some of the mainland conventions, which brings people together more to meet and learn from each other. These things are fantastic for networking and learning from other professionals and enthusiasts. It’s a less intimidating environment allowing everyone time to speak to the pros and mingle. […]
Pepper 10 Years Ago We thought, considering Pepper’s recent success with their Volcanic Rock Tour, we’d revisit the past with some photos we took when the boys played at our little rat-hole pad at the beach on 42nd Street in Newport Beach, CA. We think the show was in 1999, but that has yet to be confirmed (college dates and times are always a little blurry.) They played an incredible show to the delight of us poor surf bums and the neighborhood rejoiced. Our cancerous, toxic little pad on the corner of 42nd was barely big enough to fit the band (let alone any audience.) We moved all of our furniture into the garage and a select few of us packed into the kitchen to watch the show. The rest of us squeezed on the patio outside to listen. […]
We love this wedding because of the high-level of style. Everything from table settings to her magnificent dress had thought behind it. Not only was this couple creative, good-looking and fun to be around, they have style oozing out of every pore. Thank you Natalie, for sharing your photos with us yet again. We love looking at them and we hope you’ll continue to send them to us. If you want to see more about Maui weddings, go to the Maui Information Guide where there’s a long list of favorite vendors as well as tips for your wedding. Some of the Maui wedding vendors we’ve listed specialize in catering, photography, transportation, planning, flowers, and even fire dancing. Check them out! […]
We attended a recent wedding on the water that was perfect and merits the “Classic Maui Wedding” award. The ceremony was on the water, next to a pool, where shortly afterwards 2 bars were opened up to us. The pupus were delicious and the drinks strong. Dinner was great too and was served in a spacious indoor room. The ceilings were vaulted and the ocean view was still intact. Everyone had a great time as we ended the night partying, dancing, and singing the night away. See more Maui wedding photography by Natalie Brown Photography. […]
Last night Sublime played at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center (MACC) with their new lead guitar and singer Rome Ramirez. Rome made for an excellent replacement for the deceased Bradley Nowell. Sublime, now "Sublime with Rome", played most of our favorite classic Sublime songs along with a few new ones. We think that they [...]
UPDATE: The talented chefs have moved on. We'll update with their new home soon. We wanted to share some fun photos from a recent wedding at the Olowalu Plantation in West Maui. This wedding was catered by Maui Executive Catering (now These chefs are at the Mill House). They had world-famous Teppanyaki Master Chef Chris [...]
This year at the Maui Photo Festival, some of the best photographers on the island joined up to enjoy lectures, hands-on sessions, and connect with the photography community. We went to many of the classes and lectures and found most of them extremely helpful. Some classes were enormously helpful in learning tips and tricks about [...]
JUST GO WITH IT with Brooklyn Decker between Jennifer Aniston & Adam Sandler On the Set with Maui's Own Megan Edgar: I started off a nervous wreck. I bought dresses. I bought make-up. I bought shoes. I curled my hair. I panicked. I felt sick. I wanted to back out. I couldn't wait to start. All of [...]
Today's festivities began at Kalama Park in Kihei for the Maui Whale Festival, hosted by Pacific Whale Foundation. Throughout the day visitors enjoyed [...]

We regularly complain about how we don't get a lot of talent to Maui, relatively. But after seeing the John Legend concert at the Castle Theatre on Thursday, we'd like to take all that back. Yes, it's true: we don't get a lot of big acts on Maui. It's rare, but we do here and [...]
Maui's favorite springtime event, the 36th annual Seabury Hall Craft Fair was held today Upcountry. This much anticipated event did not disappoint. Every year, the craft fair is held the day before Mother's Day and for good reason. The event was packed with visitors and residents looking to pick up something unique and locally made [...]
This coming Halloween, 2008, will be the first in decades to not enjoy the cheerful costume contests and local booths in Banyan Tree Park. The Maui County Cultural Resources Commission denied permits for costume contests, live outdoor stages, and food and craft booths. Their reasoning behind this is to curb indecent and lewd behavior and [...]
