The Maui Film Festival usually runs in mid June of each year, so there's plenty of time to get ready. We've decided to give you a little heads up on what you might need in order to enjoy the festival to its fullest.
If you've got little ones, Haiku Elementary has a fun event each year where students dress up the back of their parents car in spooky Halloweeny ways, then hand out candy to dressed up trick or treaters. It's a ton of fun and really a great, practical way of going trick or treating.
We came across a pretty talented Maui photographer recently and can't help but share his images. Chris Archer is a Maui photographer specializing in landscapes and portraits.
We love when our friends on Maui begin new fun businesses, especially when their products are cool. Our friends at 808 Shells have put together a line of island-style Hawaii iPhone cases for the 4 and 4S, and we love them! […]
The Shins absolutely rocked the house at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center last night at the Castle Theater. They played a good grip of our old favorites as well as some new ones off their newest album, Port Of Morrow. The evening began with cocktails and familiar faces outside the entrance of the Castle at MACC. We were really happy to see that the art exhibit next door was still open (closes I believe in a few days.) Beautiful pieces lined the walls, including one piece from Jefferson Stillwell. We strolled around seeing some amazing local art before The Shins began playing. […]
There’s good reason why so many people choose to get married on Maui each year. Because of the heavy flow of business, Maui wedding vendors are in no short supply. This is why it’s important to choose very carefully who you decide go with when picking caterer, wedding planner, photographer, DJ, officiant, and much more. This is the beginning of a serious of posts about weddings where we’ll discuss our favorites, starting with photographer. […]
We’ve listed our favorite parts of the Maui Photo Festival along with some things that can be improved. THE GOOD Location! Perfect for outdoor photo shoots and workshops. The beaches here are amazing and perfect for sunsets. you can’t ask for a better area to shoot at. Warm, Strong Community. This is different from any other photography convention we’ve been to. It’s not as huge as some of the mainland conventions, which brings people together more to meet and learn from each other. These things are fantastic for networking and learning from other professionals and enthusiasts. It’s a less intimidating environment allowing everyone time to speak to the pros and mingle. […]
Pepper 10 Years Ago We thought, considering Pepper’s recent success with their Volcanic Rock Tour, we’d revisit the past with some photos we took when the boys played at our little rat-hole pad at the beach on 42nd Street in Newport Beach, CA. We think the show was in 1999, but that has yet to be confirmed (college dates and times are always a little blurry.) They played an incredible show to the delight of us poor surf bums and the neighborhood rejoiced. Our cancerous, toxic little pad on the corner of 42nd was barely big enough to fit the band (let alone any audience.) We moved all of our furniture into the garage and a select few of us packed into the kitchen to watch the show. The rest of us squeezed on the patio outside to listen. […]
Last night Sublime played at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center (MACC) with their new lead guitar and singer Rome Ramirez. Rome made for an excellent replacement for the deceased Bradley Nowell. Sublime, now "Sublime with Rome", played most of our favorite classic Sublime songs along with a few new ones. We think that they [...]
At Hawaii Web Group, we've been working very hard to step up the web game and make sites that not only inform visitors, but to also engage them in new ways. With Maui-Maps.com, we think we've accomplished this by offering a site with loads of information, live updating streams from Twitter, social integration with Facebook [...]
This year at the Maui Photo Festival, some of the best photographers on the island joined up to enjoy lectures, hands-on sessions, and connect with the photography community. We went to many of the classes and lectures and found most of them extremely helpful. Some classes were enormously helpful in learning tips and tricks about [...]
JUST GO WITH IT with Brooklyn Decker between Jennifer Aniston & Adam Sandler On the Set with Maui's Own Megan Edgar: I started off a nervous wreck. I bought dresses. I bought make-up. I bought shoes. I curled my hair. I panicked. I felt sick. I wanted to back out. I couldn't wait to start. All of [...]
Today's festivities began at Kalama Park in Kihei for the Maui Whale Festival, hosted by Pacific Whale Foundation. This annual event helps bring awareness to locals and visitors about the Humpback Whales that visit Maui every winter. The day began with a keiki parade and Eco-Day Conference for the kids. Throughout the day visitors enjoyed [...]
Natalie Brown Photography recently shared a photo shoot with us that is truly unique. She was hired to secretly photograph an engagement on the beach. As she told us the story, you could tell how it affected her just by the enthusiasm in her voice. She went on to explain how she's enjoyed shooting photos [...]
Perhaps induced by the recent anniversary of the original Woodstock, our favorite Aloha sticker company has come out with a whole line of great Hippie Stickers! Stuck on Maui has been producing the most authentic Aloha and Tiki Stickers for years, and it's great to see them branching out. Maui is home to many hippies, [...]
We regularly complain about how we don't get a lot of talent to Maui, relatively. But after seeing the John Legend concert at the Castle Theatre on Thursday, we'd like to take all that back. Yes, it's true: we don't get a lot of big acts on Maui. It's rare, but we do here and [...]
Maui's favorite springtime event, the 36th annual Seabury Hall Craft Fair was held today Upcountry. This much anticipated event did not disappoint. Every year, the craft fair is held the day before Mother's Day and for good reason. The event was packed with visitors and residents looking to pick up something unique and locally made [...]
The island of Maui, and all of the Hawaiian Islands, have a major cat problem. With no natural predators, and near-ideal conditions to live, feral cats are breeding rampantly all over. Without control over breeding, these kitty populations are growing exponentially. With rapid growth comes more collisions with vehicles, starvation, and disease. The problem is [...]
