Guest post by Kelly Montenero with Trilogy ExcursionsDon’t get us wrong- Maui is still a beautiful, special place to snorkel, but, as any one who has entered the ocean recently can attest, there is a major environmental crisis underway. Hawai’i’s coral is bleaching at unprecedented levels due to warm ocean conditions- you may have spotted [...]

Could it be possible that an idea that was previously botched beyond belief is seeing a resurgence in popularity? Yes. For those that have already forgotten, the original contentious Hawaii Superferry began operating without adequate Environmental Impact Reports, which subsequently ended in our ferries being sold and the idea sunk. […]

We had the honor and pleasure to be invited to the Grand Opening of the Andaz Maui at Wailea this last Saturday. The Andaz is the Hyatt’s new beachfront resort, which has gone through an almost complete rebuild from the original Renaissance Hotel. What they have done with this property is jaw dropping. […]

Last year, we were so lucky to go to the 1st Annual TedxMaui! For those that don’t know, Ted.com is a great place to spend some computer time getting inspired by hundreds of 20 minute talks by the top speakers in almost every field. We first watched them while having lunch (since they’re short enough to watch then talk about in a lunch break.) We never imagined that the talks would come to Maui! We expect to be awed again on January 13th, 2013! […]
The Shins absolutely rocked the house at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center last night at the Castle Theater. They played a good grip of our old favorites as well as some new ones off their newest album, Port Of Morrow. The evening began with cocktails and familiar faces outside the entrance of the Castle at MACC. We were really happy to see that the art exhibit next door was still open (closes I believe in a few days.) Beautiful pieces lined the walls, including one piece from Jefferson Stillwell. We strolled around seeing some amazing local art before The Shins began playing. […]
A quick note to those looking to rent a vacation rental in Maui. Though vacation rentals can sometimes be the best option as far as price and privacy, not all Maui vacation rentals are created equally. PLEASE, do not rent illegal TVR’s. An illegal transient vacation rental is a home that is being rented to Maui visitors without getting the required permitting. […]
Molokini Crater is one of the best locations to snorkel at within Maui waters due to it’s protection from swell, which gives some incredible clarity when snorkeling and diving. Pride of Maui has decided to run a contest where they’re giving away tickets to Molokini as well as to their sunset cruises. All you have to do is […]
Maui Pineapple Company, operated by Maui Land & Pineapple Company, will end all pineapple production in Maui, Hawaii. Warren Haruki, the Chairman and Interim CEO of ML&P, said that since 2002, Maui Pineapple Company (MPC) has lost $115 million in the businesses as well as $20 million they'd invested in a new fresh packing facility. After many difficulties, the Hawaii Superferry has finally been put to rest... for now. The Hawaii Supreme Court struck down a new law that allowed the Alakai to run operations in Hawaii waters without an official Environmental Impact Report (EIS.) The Hawaii Superferry ran its last voyage between Maui and Oahu on Thursday March 19th, [...]
