Maui Film Festival

By |May 25th, 2012|

By far, our favorite event of the year on Maui is the Maui Film Festival (June 13th-17th.)  Watching the sunset over the ocean, then walking over to the grass of a golf course to watch a double feature under the stars?  Are you kidding me?  And add all the fun parties before and after the films.  It’s blissfully fun.

So you want to go?  The Maui Film Festival usually runs in mid June of each year, so there’s plenty of time to get ready.  We’ve decided to give you a little heads up on what you might need in order to enjoy the festival to its fullest. […]

The Shins Rock MAUI

By |April 19th, 2012|

The Shins absolutely rocked the house at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center last night at the Castle Theater.  They played a good grip of our old favorites as well as some new ones off their newest album, Port Of Morrow.

The evening began with cocktails and familiar faces outside the entrance of the Castle at MACC.  We were really happy to see that the art exhibit next door was still open (closes I believe in a few days.)  Beautiful pieces lined the walls, including one piece from Jefferson Stillwell. We strolled around seeing some amazing local art before The Shins began playing.

Maui Wedding Photography

By |April 12th, 2012|

There’s good reason why so many people choose to get married on Maui each year.  Because of the heavy flow of business, Maui wedding vendors are in no short supply.  This is why it’s important to choose very carefully who you decide go with when picking caterer, wedding planner, photographer, DJ, officiant, and much more.  This is the beginning of a serious of posts about weddings where we’ll discuss our favorites, starting with photographer. Maui Photo Festival 2011

By |August 29th, 2011|

We’ve listed our favorite parts of the Maui Photo Festival along with some things that can be improved.
THE GOOD

Location! Perfect for outdoor photo shoots and workshops. The beaches here are amazing and perfect for sunsets.  you can’t ask for a better area to shoot at.
Warm, Strong Community. This is different from any other photography convention we’ve been to.  It’s not as huge as some of the mainland conventions, which brings people together more to meet and learn from each other.  These things are fantastic for networking and learning from other professionals and enthusiasts. It’s a less intimidating environment allowing everyone time to speak to the pros and mingle.

Pepper Live At House Party

By |February 24th, 2011|

Pepper 10 Years Ago
We thought, considering Pepper’s recent success with their Volcanic Rock Tour, we’d revisit the past with some photos we took when the boys played at our little rat-hole pad at the beach on 42nd Street in Newport Beach, CA.  We think the show was in 1999, but that has yet to be confirmed (college dates and times are always a little blurry.)  They played an incredible show to the delight of us poor surf bums and the neighborhood rejoiced.

Our cancerous, toxic little pad on the corner of 42nd was barely big enough to fit the band (let alone any audience.)  We moved all of our furniture into the garage and a select few of us packed into the kitchen to watch the show.  The rest of us squeezed on the patio outside to listen. […]

Sublime w/ Rome at the MACC

By |November 22nd, 2010|

Last night Sublime played at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center (MACC) with their new lead guitar and singer Rome Ramirez.  Rome made for an excellent replacement for the deceased Bradley Nowell.

Sublime, now “Sublime with Rome”, played most of our favorite classic Sublime songs along with a few new ones.  We think […]

John Legend at Castle Theatre MACC

By |September 12th, 2009|

We regularly complain about how we don’t get a lot of talent to Maui, relatively.  But after seeing the John Legend concert at the Castle Theatre on Thursday, we’d like to take all that back.

Yes, it’s true: we don’t get a lot of big acts on Maui.  It’s rare, but we […]

The Maui Kitty Crisis

By |June 16th, 2008|

The island of Maui, and all of the Hawaiian Islands, have a major cat problem. With no natural predators, and near-ideal conditions to live, feral cats are breeding rampantly all over. Without control over breeding, these kitty populations are growing exponentially. With rapid growth comes more collisions with vehicles, starvation, […]
